South Sudan seeks Russian investments in oil, gas, ore mining

LONDON, May 30 (PRIME) -- South Sudan expects to receive Russian companies’ investments in the country’s oil and gas and ore mining sectors, a representative of the country’s president for international relations told PRIME on Monday.

“In terms of the economy Russia can bring a lot to such countries as South Sudan. Before we received independency in 2011, Russia held many researches of South Sudan’s potential in the oil and ore mining spheres. So Russia has quite a big volume of information about what minerals can be mined in South Sudan and where precisely,” he said.

He confirmed that South Sudan is holding talks with Russian gas giant Gazprom.

“We are holding talks with Russian companies – these are Gazprom and others, they are ready to invest in the oil sector. There is also an interest in Gazprombank providing financial services in South Sudan. The companies are showing interest in investing in South Sudan and we would like this interest to become more certain,” he said.

South Sudan is interested in importing Russian agricultural equipment, military equipment, and food products from Russia and is ready to export gum arabic and furs to the country.
